HOW TO DONATE TO Kids In the Middle®

Client fees do not come close to covering the cost of counseling services offered by Kids In the Middle®. Your donations enable us to provide a sliding scale fee to make it easier for families to access our services. Whether it is a small donation or a Major Gift of $5,000 or more, we are thankful for your support. It's easy to make a tax-deductible contribution to Kids In the Middle®. We accept credit card donations by telephone or if you prefer to mail in your tax-deductible contribution, please direct your payment to: 121 West Monroe Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63122.

And now, for the best part. . . . . .

How Do You Spell Tax Relief? Y-O-P

Kids In the Middle now has tax credits available through the Missouri Youth Opportunities Program (YOP).  What does this mean?  It means that when you make a donation to Kids In the Middle, you get 50% of the donation amount off your Missouri state taxes.  Plus, you still get your state and federal income tax deductions!  That’s real tax relief!!

Here’s an example of how a $1,000 donation may cost you only $300.* Based upon a 28% federal tax bracket:

Donate $1,000 to KITM                                                        $ 1,000
Get Your Missouri Tax Credit (50% of gift)                       - $    500
Get Your Federal Income Tax Deduction (28%)                 - $    280
Get Your State Income Tax Deduction (6%)                      - $      60
Pay Federal Tax on State Savings                                     + $    140
Net Cost to You                                                              $  300

$200 would really cost only $60.*

$5,000 would really cost only $1,500.*

*These are approximations.  Ask your tax preparer to advise you.

It’s easy to do.  Here’s how.

  • Make a donation to Kids In the Middle by check, credit card or stock transfer.  ($100 minimum donation)
  • We will send you a tax credit application form.
  • You return the completed, signed and notarized form to us within twelve months from the date of the contribution with a photocopy of the cancelled check (front & back), credit card statement or stock sale.
  • We’ll submit them to the state.
  • You will then receive tax credits that you can apply to the tax year in which you made your donation or you can carry them over for the next five succeeding tax years.

Who really benefits from YOP tax credits?  Kids!
The bottom line is that this tax incentive has one major purpose – to help kids (and their parents) “in the middle” of divorce get the therapy, education and support they need.

Use the Missouri Youth Opportunity Program tax credits and donate more for less.  That’s how we spell tax relief!

Tributes and Memorials

Donors can designate their contributions to be made as a tribute or a memorial. Tributes are a great way to honor a friend, family member or co-worker. Birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations are perfect opportunities for a tribute. Memorial contributions are a thoughtful way to remember a loved one and show their family members how much you care. Recipients of tributes or memorials will be informed of your donation by mail without being told the dollar amount.

Annual Giving Campaign

Twice a year, we ask the community to donate to Kids In the Middle® through our Summer and Fall Appeals. We would be happy to add your name or those of your friends to our mailing list. As a Kids In the Middle® donor you will not only experience the joy of helping kids but you will receive our Newsletter and invitations to all Kids In the Middle® events. And, you can always designate your donation as a tribute or memorial.

Susan P. Bartlett Kids Fund

The Susan P. Bartlett Kids Fund enables Kids In the Middle® to provide a sliding fee scale so that families are able to pay what they can afford according to their income. If you would like to make counseling services affordable for children in honor of Susan P. Bartlett, please specify that your donations be allocated to the Bartlett fund.

Arleen and Dr. Phillip Korenblat Scholarship Fund

The Arleen and Dr. Phillip Korenblat Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for families who are unable to pay for counseling for their children, even at the lowest end of the sliding fee scale. If you would like to provide counseling services for our most financially needy families, please designate your gift to this scholarship fund.

In-Kind Donations

While monetary donations are always appreciated, we also accept in-kind donations. Making an in-kind donation can be as easy as purchasing a few extra sets of markers or bubbles the next time you are shopping and dropping them off at our building in Kirkwood. Or, to donate furnishings and technology items, please contact our Development Director, at (314) 909-9922, ext. 116, to discuss purchase and delivery options. As always, with any type of donation, we will be happy to provide you with a donation letter for tax purposes. Click here to check out our "Wish List" to see what we currently need.
